Golf is the game which is present in Pakistan since its independence. There are number of goal courses in Pakistan like Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, Lahore Gymkhana, DHA Golf Club Karachi, Islamabad Golf Club and best golf players in Pakistan includes Muhammad Shabbir and Muhammad Munir.
Golf is one unique game in Pakistan that took off from the scratch after the establishment of Pakistan in 1947. At that time, the two most important golf courses were Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course and Pakistan West Railways golf course which is now known as Royal Palm Golf and Country Club. Since the establishment of Pakistan, golf has seen many ups and downs, twists and turns for the elite of Pakistan but it has managed to make its mark through the breath-taking golf courses and some of the world class players who started playing at these golf courses.
In order to keep up the game of golf in Pakistan, Pakistan Golf Union was established in 1960 which later on took the shape of Pakistan Golf Federation.
Currently, the major golf courses in Pakistan include; Royal Palm Golf and Country Club, Lahore Gymkhana, DHA Golf Club Karachi, Islamabad Golf Club, Garrison Golf and Country Club Lahore, Rawalpindi Golf Club, Peshawar golf Club and a few newly established ones like the Defence Raya Golf Club in Lahore. At the moment, Pakistan has got more than 40 golf courses in total and all are serving at their best to promote the game to a larger extent in different parts of Pakistan.
Amongst the Pakistani golf players, Muhammad Shabbir and Muhammad Munir of Islamabad Golf and Country Club are the top golf players that Pakistan has for golf and they have also represented Pakistan in different international level golf tournaments too. In 2009, these remarkable golf players made a new history for the Pakistani golf by qualifying in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup for the first time ever. It has been an honor for Pakistan to be amongst the top three teams of the world which qualified for the Golf World Cup.
Even though Pakistan has limited resources to promote a game like golf but still, the kind of advancement and professional golf players Pakistan has got during the past few years is surely commendable.
It seems that Pakistan has got a lot of potential for a game like golf and within a few years if correct guidance and proper funds are provided, Pakistan can be one of the most popular countries for golf with great golf players and age old golf courses.
