The Ace of Pentacles hits us right away with Barfi! being a gamble for the makers. The combination of actors will be loved and they well respected for their work. The Three of Pentacles says that creativity and skill showcased in the film will be enjoyed. But when it comes to mass appreciation, the film will just fall short of this. The Judgement and Hermit cards show that there will be audience praise, but also re-affirm that a niche audience will come to love it more.
Barfi! will receive great reviews and recognition as well as wealth in the overseas market – but will this be enough for the film to be declared a box office success? With some audiences left confused, and some in love with the film – Barfi! is treading a thin line, but overall it will succeed in recovering its money and becoming a stepping stone for all those involved.
As a director, Anurag Basu will show immense growth through Barfi!, but despite showing great Temperance like balance in his treatment of the film and getting the best out of his actors, he won’t receive his due rewards. Luckily, the Two of Cups does show that the bonds made through this film will reward him at a later time in life.
