Every year Muslims in and out of Pakistan celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day, on the 14th of August, the day on which Pakistan was founded based on the border lines created by the British at the end of their rule in India and thus became an independent country.

The day is celebrated all over Pakistan with flag raising ceremonies, leaders and people from different of society hold seminars, conferences and workshops to pay tribute to the glorious contributions of our Founder, Quaid Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Celebrations take place in various forms. Every city is decorated with Pakistani flags, lights and fire crackers take place at night.

Main celebrations of Pakistan take place in Islamabad where the President and Prime Minister raise the national flag at the Presidential and Parliament buildings and deliver speeches that are televised live followed by musical programmes. In the speech, the leaders highlight the important works of the government under the light of the father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam, with a promise of promoting ‘Unity, Faith and Discipline’ among people.

Minar-e-Pakistan fully lit up to commemorate the independence of Pakistan from the British Empire. Change of guard ceremony take place on 14th of August and the Pakistan Navy cadets salute the tomb of Quaid-e-Azam.

At homes celebrations of 14th August take place with candles being lighted up at homes, women of household prepare halwa and make special prayers. Families and friends get together for lunch or dinner, or for an outing. Housing colonies, cultural centres, and societies hold entertainment programmes and competitions.

Newspapers bring out special editions, mosques hold special prayers for the peace and prosperity of the country. School and colleges around the country organise flag hoisting ceremony and various cultural activities within their premises to celebrate the spirit of Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Other events of 14th of August include: Changing of the guard at the mausoleum of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Mazar-e-Quaid, Wagah Border ceremonies, fashion and musical concerts, both sides releasing prisoners that may have crossed each others borders.
