A Legend – Fatima Surayya Bajia No More

After a rather prolonged fight with illness, the noble lady of the world of urdu literature Fatima Surayya Bajia passed away at the age of 85 years.

Rich in talent, writing ability and associations with drama productions of quality, this lady enriched with excellence had won many hearts over the past few decades. Known for her plays Shama 1974, Aroosa, Sassi Punno, Anarkali, she was the talk of millions of homes where families felt that each word that she wrote and was subsequently uttered brought forth emotions that can be graded as lessons of life.

Bajia was born on September 1, 1930 in Hyderabad, India and then migrated to Pakistan with her family after the separation. She remained devoted to the development of urdu literature and her publications were eagerly sought. During her life many awards came her way and her contributions were readily acknowledged.

She came from a family that was full of talent. Her brother Anwar Maqsood who is a famous writer talked about her with immense gratitude. He said that she was a mother to him and a mentor whom he is going to miss.

Condolence messages have started to pour in by the thousands.
