Every year, Pantone polls designers and brands about colors they’re featuring to aid in its decision for what hue will tinge the next 12 months. For 2013, the company has bestowed the distinction of Color of the Year on the shade its database identifies as 17-5641: Emerald Green.
It’s the color of one of the world’s most
majestic jewels. Emerald with all of its rich connotations, its earthy vibe & its cool mood a natural choice for the moment’s top color.
It certainly is a hot shade; we’ll be seeing it in jewelry, scarves, bags, shoes, cosmetics & fashion accessories. People who don’t wear a lot of color feel safe in emerald green.
Emerald is such a balanced color, and balance is something to pick up on and listen to! It’s a color of growth, renewal, healing, unity and regeneration – words we’re all so in need of at this point of history." Pantone, the color authority to which we are forever faithful, recently announced emerald is the official color of 2013.
While the Oxford Dictionary defines emerald as "a bright green precious stone consisting of a chromium-rich variety of beryl," Pantone gets a bit more flowery with their language. They describe the bold hue as "a color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."
Green is cooling. It’s a color that brings balance and harmony." In honor of its recent upgrade, we’d like to honor all things emerald in arts and culture. From piercing jungle backdrops to art deco haute couture.
Each year Pantone color specialists, fashion industry insiders & design experts convene to choose the color of the year based on society's mood, home decor, & runway trends.
