Islamabad Fashion Week to make a bold statement

This year forget about the catwalks of London, Paris and Milan for the fashion fever has shifted to Pakistan’s capital city, Islamabad.

Recently Islamabad has been making headlines for all the sad reasons after the death of Governor of the Punjab, but fashionistas are determined to change the city ambiance with fashion rage.

Islamabad fashion week will change the way people think of Pakistan,” said Kamran Sani, a director of the company behind the four-day extravaganza. ”There is a bright side to Pakistan, which is modern, secular and upwardly progressive. No one bothers to see that side – they see the Taliban, bomb blasts, floods, poverty.”

Today there will be a mélange of fashion models, designers, buyers and fashion journalists from France, Russia, Ukraine and Switzerland at the Serena Hotel to celebrate the colors of fashion.

Mr Sani said he had done what he could to ensure the safety of designers, models and guests. ”The rest is all in Allah’s hands,” he said.

In Pakistan there is always a war going on between Mullahs and fashion world yet the defiant fashion industry is always on a roll!
