Maqbool Sabri Passed Away in South Africa

Famous Pakistani qawwal Maqbool Sabri has passed away at age of 60 due to heart attack last night in Cape Town, South Africa.

Pakistan’s renowned qawwal Maqbool Sabri of Sabri Brothers was hospitalized for two months treatment in South Africa. He was suffering from heart problem and diabetes. Last night he caught a severe heart attack and could not survive. Maqbool Sabri had left behind a widow, a son and three daughters.

Qawwal Maqbool Sabri of Sabri Brothers was born on Oct 12, 1945 in Kalyana, India. His father Haji Inayat Sabri taught him music. He recorded his first ever qawwali with his elder brother Ghulam Fareed Sabri in 1958 at the age of 17 and then formed a qawwali group named as Sabri Brothers.

He received Pride of Performance Award in 1970 followed by his first international performance in New York. ‘Bhar do jholi’ and ‘Mera koi nahin hai tere siwa’ are the famous qawwalis of Maqbool Sabri.
