Sundas Hurain is a co-founder of the luxury Sunuba Spa and Rejuvenation Centre. After conducting extensive research in the faculty of holistic health and beauty care, Sundas along with her mother Imrana Shahid and sister Ubab brought to the women of Lahore the ultimate in luxury, beauty and health benefits.
Sundas aims to continue experimenting and bringing specialties from the world over to Pakistan and also wishes to introduce the best and oldest medical science Ayurveda in Lahore. Here she speaks exclusively to Fashion Central.
1. Interiors and Aesthetics are often integral to Spa’s globally. Walk us through the Sunuba Spa and Rejuvenation Centre Interior.
As our spa is a fusion of various types of Spa’s from across the world, in our interior we bring together design elements inspired from all the major Spas centers of the world.
When you enter the spa, your first view is that of the friendly reception area and a cozy waiting area with abstract images framing the charcoal grey walls. As you’re escorted upstairs to the Spa services area, you are welcomed by a dimly lit bamboo ceiling, a relaxation area and a little kitchenette with a tropics inspired outlook. The relaxation area gives a European feel, with the small coffee table and the tree skin dark brown woven chairs. This is the hydrotherapy floor. Here you will change into a robe, assigned a locker, and prepped for the services to come. The floor is lined with stones. This whole floor is inspired by Abano, the village in Germany where hot and cold water treatments first originated.
Upstairs, is the floor where dry therapies are given. The dimly lit massage rooms have a very orient inspired slanting roof. The Detox room has a green area effect with an entire wall containing glass enclosed plants.
Throughout the facility an earthen color scheme has been followed; so charcoal grey, rust, soil brown, wood have largely been used.
2. Spas have been around for a long time all over the world time but are still considered a relatively new concept in Pakistan. What are the reasons behind you, your mother and sister opening a Spa in Lahore?
My mother has been in the beauty business for twenty years now. She has been going abroad every summer to learn more and keep herself abreast of the cutting edge developments in the industry. So we were already aware of the benefits a Spa has to offer. Spa is a lifestyle choice for better health. We really wanted to make this wonderful facility available in our own country. So five years ago we started working on this. From the concept to the various therapies offered. The cutting edge in the Spa world. As we researched more, we progressively realized the importance of the various spa therapies in the maintenance of a healthy body and mind. Historically, Spas have been medical treatment centers as well, precisely because of these health benefits.
3. In terms of your salon services, what is it you feel sets Sunuba apart from other beauty clinics and salons?
As the concept of our facility is based on health and relaxation, the entire process within the salon as well has been geared towards those very ends. You will never enter our salon to find it bustling with people waiting hours for their turns. We aim to gradually make it an appointment only service area where none of our guests have to wait or stress out about time or quality.
Quality is of course at the core of all our services. We use the best products only; from OPI, to L’Oreal, Schwarzkopf, to Dermalogica and Rosactive. You can rest assured that nothing less than the best in the industry is being offered in a stress free, no hassle, rejuvenating manner.

4. Tell us about your signature Sunuba therapies and why ladies reading this should try these out!
We have brought together signature treatments from around the world, so it is a little difficult to narrow these down. One of our wonderful treatments is the Silhoutte wrap. It works to break down the outer thick layers of the adipose tissue, and compression wrapping is used to flush out fat from these fat storing depositories into your lymphatic system. A combination of detox drinks and water is used to flush out these released fatty composites and toxins. The result is instantaneous. We guarantee an overall inch-loss of 4 to 20 inches from just one treatment. We will measure you before and after.
We also have the Parafango heat system. This is the deepest localized heat system available. It does wonders for pains and aches, has been proven helpful in arthritis and other joint pains and is wonderful at inducing deep detoxification in the body.
Our Manis and Pedis have become a favorite of our guests that have tried them out. The very basic Mani Pedi uses products from the OPI Fruity line. While the Spa Mani Pedis use Gehwol (a world leader in specialty foot products) and Thelaspa. Gehwol is used to effectively treat any corns, cracks or other problems of the feet. If you have tired aching feet or swollen feet, you are suffering from circulation problems. Our Kneipp Kur alternate hot and cold dipping is designed to invigorate the muscles, promote a healthy circulation, and rejuvenate the muscles in distress. This therapy has been medically shown to benefit arthritis, consistent feet and other muscle pains as well as sports cramps.
5. Given today hectic lifestyle where one is always stressed – what specific services and therapies do you suggest are perfect to rejuvenate oneself?
For stress we would recommend a body therapy beginning with a hydrotherapy aroma soak. The sensuous and relaxing smells and water penetration begins the relaxation process. After the soak, an invigorating body exfoliation is to follow after which an herbal mask is applied that relaxes your muscles and takes you to a deeper level of relaxation. This therapy is concluded by the Swedish massage, whose long and therapeutic movements give the final blow to the stress stored in your body.
6. With the upcoming bridal season, other than make up what are therapies you think a bride need for that bridal glow?
A relaxed and rejuvenated mind, and a healthy circulation coupled with the elimination of all the toxins from the body are the main ingredients to a healthy and glowing complexion. Body exfoliation and other primping treatments also work on the surface of the skin making it soft, smooth and lovely to the touch. For a bride-to-be it is essential to avail herself of the therapies perfected for the Javenese royalty. In old Java, a bride to be from the royal family was given extensive body treatments for weeks in prep for her wedding day. We offer nothing less to the brides-to-be here.
7. Are you customizing any specific packages and therapies for the festive season in general?
All our therapies are custom designed to suite the exact lifestyle and body needs of our guests. We assess these in our detailed consultation session. We have, however, for the convenience of our guests designed special packages for the brides and her family and friends. All packages consist of a custom designed treatment according to each individual’s unique needs.
8. Sunuba is also a medical spa – typically speaking, what sort of ailments do you address and how?
We are hybrid beauty and medical spa. As mentioned earlier, some of our treatments have been medically proven as helpful in the cases of arthritis, sports injuries, circulation problems etc. We also provide color therapy for seasonal depression and deep heat therapies for back and neck problems amongst many others.
