Wearing Gucci to the Los Angeles County Museum (LACMA) of Art’s annual Art + Film Gala isn’t compulsory, but it’s highly recommended. This past weekend, the museum hosted its eleventh gala on Wilshire Boulevard, sponsored by Gucci to honor America’s most influential creatives and cultural power players.
In 2022, the stars dined in celebration of South Korean auteur Park Chan-wook and Light and Space artist Helen Pashgian. Once again, the ceremony was co-chaired by Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA board member Eva Chow and brought to a close with a musical performance from Sir Elton John himself.
For many of the celebrity guests walking the LACMA red carpet, then, Gucci was the go. Many of the attendees were famous Alessandro Michele clotheshorses; Olivia Wilde for example, who recently wrapped up an incredibly Gucci-field Don’t Worry Darling press tour, slipped into the house’s signature sequins.
Wilde’s stylist Karla Welch teamed the purple and silver chevron gown with opera gloves—red latex, to match the strappy crimson heel peeking out from under her skirt. Billie Eilish, on the other hand, had a Cleopatra moment, rolling herself and The Neighbourhood’s Jesse Rutherford up in a monogram carpet, with sleepwear underneath—slippers included.
It was another hair color change for the statuesque Jodie Turner-Smith, who appeared with a gilded crop to match her bedazzled gown, bronze fringe lashing her gloves and the bottom half of her skirt. Silver, meanwhile, was Carey Mulligan’s heavy metal of choice; she wore hers in the form of a fringed blazer and slip styled by Andrew Mukamal, black satin fraying into starry threads of fabric that swept the air as she swanned around.
As for the guests not in Gucci? Saint Laurent made more than one appearance, with both Laura Harrier and Blackpink’s Rosé wearing Anthony Vaccarello’s hooded gowns. And though Kendall Jenner and Addison Rae chose sleek, navel-baring pieces, they diverged on the designer, with Jenner in Burc Akyol and Rae in vintage Jean Louis de Scherrer.
