Stay Sun Safe

From 10 AM to 4 PM the sun is at its peak. Spending time in hot sunny day is not bad but over exposure to the sun is harmful. Although spending time in a sunny day stimulates active life style and boosts vitamin D but one should take some precautionary measures while going in the day time.

It would be unwise to reduce your activities by avoiding going outside, because physical activity is important to be healthy but excessive exposure to sunlight can be harmful. So enjoy your activities in sun but safe and sound. There is a guideline that how can you keep yourself safe in the sun.

Cover your whole body

First of all, you should avoid the sun exposure between the hours of 10 AM to 4 PM when UV rays are more intense. And when you want to go out in the sun then cover your skin as much as possible by wearing clothes. Long sleeve shirts, pants are more protective and cover the most skin. Clothing is perhaps the best way to protect your skin when you are in the sun. Wear light colors and loose fitting clothes which reflects the heat rather than the dark shades which absorb the heat.

Wear a hat with a wide brim

You should wear a cap with at least a 2 to 3 inch brim. A hat is ideal way to protect the delicate parts of body like ears, head, forehead, nose and scalp that are often exposed to intense sun. Straw cap and base ball hats only cover head and don’t protect neck where skin cancers often develop. So only wear the cap with 2-3 inches brim that also protects your eyes from glare.

Use umbrella

Be sure to take an umbrella with you whenever you go outside. It will protect you from direct sun exposure and harmful rays of the sun. An umbrella will help you to keep you cool by protecting you from the direct sun rays.

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen that is vital factor that protects your from the sun. Apply the sunscreen with the SPF 30 or greater and apply it almost 30 minutes before the exposure to the sun. You should also use makeup that contains sunscreen to protect you from UV rays. Apply sunscreen on face, neck, feet, ears and hands. Wear a sunscreen that is best suited your skin.

Use protective eyewears

Use sunglasses that block UV rays. UV blocking sun glasses are the best way to protect the delicate skin around the eyes. It will also keep you safe from eye diseases. Make sure that when you wear sun glasses they have label saying that they block UV rays. It is not necessary to wear dark colors glasses because UV protection comes from the chemical applied on the lenses. Large framed glasses are more likely to protect your eyes and skin around the eyes. Sun glasses are the best for protecting eye damage, cataracts and skin cancer.

Keep yourself hydrated

The most important point is to keep you hydrated. Drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. You can also drink energy drinks that provide you energy and make you feel fresh and healthy.
